Early Life & Education
Dr. Govindasamy Viswanathan (G.V), Founder and Chancellor of Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), is a distinguished educationist, institution builder, and social reformer. He excelled in academics from his school days in Gudiyatham, Tamil Nadu, earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Economics from Loyola College, Chennai, graduated in Law from Madras University, and later completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School (2003).
Public Service & Leadership
Dr. G. V’s career began in public life as a Member of Parliament (1967–77), Member of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly (1980–84 & 1991–96), and Minister for Food, Cooperation and Dairy Development, Government of Tamil Nadu (1991–93). His leadership has been recognised worldwide with honorary doctorates from:
- West Virginia University, USA (2009)
- State University of New York, Binghamton (2024)
- St. Xavier’s University, Kolkata (2025) – his first Indian honorary doctorate
- Rochester Institute of Technology, New York (2025)
Building VIT – A Global Institution
Realising the growing need for quality higher education in Vellore, Dr. G. Viswanathan founded Vellore Engineering College in 1984, which evolved into VIT University in 2001. Today, VIT stands as a multi-campus, multicultural institution, home to nearly one lakh students from all Indian states and over 70 countries.

Vice President - Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) Chairman - Vellore International School (VIS)
Dr. G. V. Selvam spearheaded the transformation of Vellore Engineering College into VIT University in 2001, becoming its first Pro-Chancellor and the youngest globally to hold the position (Limca Book of Records). With a postgraduate degree and Ph.D. in Business Administration from the University of Madras, he blends academic insight with entrepreneurial vision.
Leadership in Higher Education
As Vice-President of VIT, Dr. G. V. Selvam has been pivotal in securing Institution of Eminence status, propelling VIT into the top 3% of global universities (QS Rankings), and winning the ARIIA Award for Innovation. He became the first Vice-President of VIT Chennai in 2010, where he shaped the campus from scratch with Green LEED-certified infrastructure. Under his leadership, the institution introduced new academic programs in Law, Architecture, Hotel Management, and Agriculture, and he also founded the acclaimed VIT Technology Business Incubator (VITTBI), which has received national recognition for its support to budding entrepreneurs. His initiatives also include the Centre for Sustainable Rural Development, the Green Vellore and Clean Palar Projects, and the internationally renowned “Riviera” festival.
Expanding the Vision
Through the Vellore International School (VIS), a 35-acre residential campus in Chennai, Dr. G. V. Selvam is extending VIT’s ethos to school education, integrating global curricula with Indian values, holistic learning, sports, and personalized care through the innovative Houseparent system.

Beyond academia, he contributes actively to social welfare, sports, culture, and community development, reflecting his commitment to empowering youth and uplifting society.

Mr. K. Prabhakaran has over 36 years of experience in the field of education. His deep engagement with national (CBSE and ICSE) and international curricula (IB and IGCSE) has significantly impacted both students and teachers.
He has served as the Assistant Headmaster and Dean of Academics at The Doon School, Dehradun, and as the Headmaster of The Lawrence School, Lovedale, Ooty. He is particularly passionate about curriculum development, pastoral care, and student counselling.
In addition to his academic responsibilities, Mr. K. Prabhakaran has been deeply involved in social and community service initiatives, including Round Square programmes aimed at supporting underprivileged students. He has led student and teacher teams in setting up and rebuilding schools damaged by natural disasters in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, and Rudraprayag (Uttarakhand), and Wayanad (Kerala).
Mr. K. Prabhakaran holds a postgraduate degree in Geography and a degree in Education. He was a university rank holder during graduation and received the National Merit Scholarship for postgraduate studies.
He believes in motivating and guiding students to reach their full academic potential. For Mr. K. Prabhakaran, values such as humility, self-discipline, and a spirit of service are essential to shaping the character of both individuals and the nation. An avid trekker, he has organised student expeditions throughout the Himalayas.

Dr. V. Sanjeevi, BE (Chem) (Hons), is a gold medallist and holds an MBA and Ph.D. He has over 45 years of experience across multiple industries. He has completed two executive programmes at Harvard Business School—on Managing Global Opportunities and Change Management.
His notable business achievements include building supply chain systems at Hindustan Unilever, serving as CEO of leading firms in textiles, chemicals, and infrastructure development, and founding successful ventures in logistics and TV media. He has served on the boards of prominent companies in the healthcare and supply chain sectors and has held the position of Director (Special Projects) at VIT.
Dr. V. Sanjeevi has also served as a guest faculty member at premier institutions, including the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, and has published research papers in the field of supply chain management.
He is actively involved in social service through the Tamil Nadu Foundation and the Sethu-Venu Educational, Research & Social Development Trust.

Mr. V. Srinivasan brings with him over 48 years of rich experience in education, having held roles such as Teacher, Teacher Trainer, House Parent, Vice Principal, Principal, Director of Academics, and Member of the School Executive Board at reputed schools in India and abroad.
He has played a key role in successfully acquiring authorisation and affiliation for institutions under several national (CBSE & CISCE) and international (Cambridge & IBO) education boards.
Mr. V. Srinivasan is well-versed in the latest developments in both national and international pedagogy. A widely travelled educator, he has conducted numerous workshops, training programmes, and seminars for faculty and students on various aspects of education.
