Dr. G. Viswanathan (G. V.), the Founder-Chancellor of VIT University, was born on December 8, 1938, in a remote village near Vellore in Tamil Nadu. Dr. G. V.’s life is a source of inspiration to aspiring youth.
He had his early education in his small village, where he studied in Tamil, his mother tongue. Having excelled in education right from his childhood, he joined Voorhees College, Vellore for higher education. He obtained his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Economics from the prestigious Loyola College, Chennai. Then, he graduated in Law from Madras Law College. He completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School in 2003, nearly four decades after he completed his university education, reaffirming his commitment to lifelong learning.
Dr. G. V. has left an indelible mark in politics – as a dedicated student leader, as an active Parliamentarian and as a Minister. His abiding passion for societal development and compassion for the underprivileged prompted Dr. G. V. to launch several schemes for the upliftment of women and unemployed youth to help them become self-reliant. He has adopted several villages with the objective of improving the quality of lives of the rural people. His vision of transforming Vellore into a greener and cooler town by planting one million saplings has begun to yield fruit.
Dr. G. V. established Vellore Engineering College in 1984 at Vellore, which has now evolved as Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT). VIT has been recognized as an Institution of Eminence (IOE) by the Government of India, a rare distinction bestowed only on twenty higher education institutions from the thousands of Universities in India. It has been consistently ranked among the top private engineering institutions in India by NIRF, Government of India. The institution received ISO Certification from Holland in the 1990s, International accreditation from the United Kingdom and USA, and the highest accreditation grade from the Government of India.
VIS is founded on the guiding principles of Dr. G. V.’s vision and compassion, which will enable the school to evolve as one of the top international schools in Chennai for holistic education.

Dr. G. V. SELVAM

Chairman - Vellore International School (VIS)

Dr. Selvam spearheaded the elevation of Vellore Engineering College to VIT University in 2001, and became its first Pro-Chancellor. Dr. Selvam enjoys the distinction of being the youngest Pro-Chancellor of a University which has been recognized by the Limca Book of Records, 2005. He holds a postgraduate degree in Business Administration from the University of Madras. A self-motivated and industrious person, and a farsighted educationalist, he possesses an innate ability to spot and nurture talent–be it with the faculty, staff or students. He became the first Vice-President of VIT Chennai in 2010, where he sculptured the campus from the scratch. Dr. Selvam was instrumental in introducing new and need-based programmes of study such as Law, Architecture, Hotel Management and Agriculture. He played a significant role in establishing the VIT Technology Business Incubator (VITTBI), which has received national acclaim for its service to budding entrepreneurs.
The world class infrastructure and the special character of VIT are being replicated by Dr. Selvam in the creation of Vellore International School (VIS). The campus is spread across 35 acres with a lush green ambience to inspire and facilitate learning. To inculcate a deep rooted cultural ethos, Indian value systems and an enterprising sports mindset in students, appropriate academic and administrative guidelines have been put together. Highly qualified members of faculty and staff will thoughtfully implement the guidelines to make learning enjoyable and profitable. Dr. V SANJEEVI

Director

Dr. V. Sanjeevi, BE (Chem) (Hons) is a gold medallist and has MBA, Ph.D. Has over 45 years of experience across multiple industries. Has completed two programs at Harvard Business School on Managing Global Opportunities and Change Management.  Notable business achievements are in building Supply Chain Systems at Hindustan Unilever, CEO positions at leading textile, Chemical and infrastructure development firms, and founding firms in logistics and in TV media. He has served as a board member in leading healthcare and supply chain firms. Served in VIT as Director (Special Projects).

He has been a guest faculty at leading universities such as Indian Institute of Technology – Madras etc. He has published research papers in supply chain management.

He has also been involved in major social services through Tamil Nadu Foundation and Sethu-Venu Educational, Research & Social Development Trust.

V SRINIVASAN

Advisor - Academics

Mr. V Srinivasan brings with him rich experience of over 48 years in the field of education as Teacher, Teacher Trainer, House Parent, Vice Principal, Principal, Director of Academics and Member of School Executive Board, at reputed schools in India and overseas.

He was instrumental in working successfully towards authorisation and affiliation of different national (CBSE & CISCE) and international (CAIE & IBO) examination boards in the schools he was associated with.

Mr. Srinivasan is conversant with the latest trends in national as well as international pedagogy.

Widely travelled, he has conducted a number of workshops, training programmes, and seminars to faculty and students, on various aspects of education. 

Mr. K Prabhakaran

Principal

Mr. Prabhakaran has been in the education sector for over 36 years. His rich experience in National (CBSE and ICSE) and International Curriculum (IB and IGCSE) has impacted not just the students but teachers too. With his diverse knowledge in various academics feats, he has served as the Assistant Headmaster and Dean of Academics of The Doon School, Dehradun and Headmaster of The Lawrence School, Lovedale, Ooty. He actively enjoys curriculum development, pastoral care and counselling for students.

Apart from teaching and school administration, Mr. Prabhakaran has been deeply involved in social and community services, including Round Square programmes, for helping underprivileged students. He has led the students and teachers of the in setting up and re-building damaged schools in the earthquake and flash-flood affected areas of Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudra Prayag in Uttrarakhand and Wayanad in Kerala.

Mr. Prabhakaran is a post graduate in Geography with a degree in education. He was the university rank holder during graduation and a recipient of the National Merit Scholarship for post-graduation.

He believes in motivating and assisting students to reach their full academic potentials. For Mr. Prabhakaran, values such as humility, self-discipline, spirit of service are important in shaping the character of the individual and the nation. Mr.Prabhakaran is an avid trekker and has organized student expeditions through the length and breadth of the Himalayas.

Amresh Kumar

Dean - Academics & Student Affairs

Amresh Kumar is an experienced educator with a diverse background. He holds degrees in Physics and Philosophy and has taught English and Physics in schools for about 25 years. He has worked in various roles, including as a teacher, house parent and Principal, in residential schools run by the Krishnamurti Foundation India (KFI).

Amresh is passionate about fostering a vibrant school culture that not only emphasizes academic excellence but also encourages students to engage with daily living, through right relationship, democratic debate, participatory decision making, and self- awareness. He is committed to preparing students to meet the challenges of contemporary society.

Amresh has a wide range of interests and is actively involved in many areas of the school, both in the classroom and through extra-curricular activities. His involvement includes leading the writing club, school magazine, literary magazine, critical thinking, life skills club, philosophy club, theatre club, film club, and mentoring students and teachers.
